Benjamin P. Gilreath 
Benjamin P. was born on September 13th, 1819 in Ashton,Wilkes County,NC. Benjamin P.'s father was Henry H. Gilreath and his mother is Lavinia Parks. His paternal grandparents were William , Jr. Gilreath and Sarah "Sallie" Jones. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Hugh Madison, Thomas G., William Britain, Sarah Louisa, Lucy Matilda, Rebecca Londra, Martha Lavina and Mary Eleanor. He is the third youngest of the nine children.General Notes
Benjamin was a farmer. He had blue eyes and black hair. He served the Union during the Civil War as Sergeant, Co A, East Tennessee National Guard. He enlisted in Chitwood, TN on September 6, 1863 and served for 60 days during the Siege of Knoxville. He mustered out on December 14, 1863 in Clinton, TN.
Benjamin received a pension for his service based on an application filed in February 1907. After his death in July 1915, his widow, Susan Elizabeth, also filed for and received a pension.
The Will of Benjamin Perry Gilreath -will Bk. 3, pages 3,4 Whitley Co., Ky. Will is dated 16 May 1863, proved Jan. 8, 1864. Wm. Kidd and John Davis were sons-in-law.
In The name of God Amen I Benjamin Gilreath of the county of Whitley and state of Kentucky being in perfect sense and memory though weak in Body and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life and knowing that my worldy effects may in a moment go to those not Deserving I do hereby ~ this my last will and testament in a manner as following to ~ in the first place I give and bequeath my sole to god who gave it hoping through the merrits of Jesus Christ my redeemer that he will rasen both soul and body unto the mention of eternity & glory Item I give and bequeath unto William Kidd & John S. Davis there heirs andasigns forever a certain tract of land lying ;:1'-1<1: k- in Whitley County on the waters of Marsh Creek & Pleasant Run occupied at this time By Benjamin P Gilreath containing Two Hundred acers by Survey the condition of the Land is pending in a suit in Chancery in the Whitley circuit court between Benjamin Gilreath & Benjamin P. Gilreath for the title. It is a tract of land I sold to B P Gilreath & he failed payment. Item I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Mary Gilreath all the personal property for her own use utility money and money afects Item I give and bequeath unto John Gilreath Hannah Watkins William Giireath~ Manning Susannah Stephens & Benjamin P Gilreath one dollar to each of them And lastly do hereby nominate & appoint John S Davis my executor of this my last will & Testament revoking all other Wills made by me wittness where ~ I have here unto set my hand and seal this 4 day of May one Thousand eight hundred and sixty three Presents of
