James Wood was born in 1792 in Charlotte Co.,Virginia.  James Wood's father was Wood ,Major Bouldin and his mother was Joanna Tyler.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas , Colonel Bouldin and Nancy Ann Wood Clark. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Lewis Contesse, Thomas Tyler , Judge, Mary, Mary Francenea Cox, Rachel Contecce, Martha Lewis, Anne and Mattie D.  He died at the age of 62 on March 30th, 1854 in Charlotte Co.,Virginia.  He was buried in Forest Hill,Charlotte Co.,Virginia.
