Elizabeth was born about 1792 in Lincoln County, North Carolina. Elizabeth's father was Andrew H. Loretz and her mother was Elizabeth Lehman. Her paternal grandparents were Andrew Loretz and Ursula Paravinci. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Jacob, Andrew H., John Frederick, Daniel, Anna Catherine, Anna Mary and Sarah.
