Herbert Melford was born on February 24th, 1893 in Hunter, Cass County, North Dakota. Herbert Melford's father was Jonas Gustav Knudtson and his mother was Karen Maria Bjerke. His paternal grandparents were Gustav J. Knudson and Ranvay Troness; his maternal grandparents were Hans Evenson Bjerke and Martha Amundsdatter Stenehjem. He had four sisters named Ruby Marcella Jemima, Effie May, Gladys Evangeline and Joyce Letitia. He was the oldest of the five children. He died at the age of 59 on January 30th, 1953 in Talihina, Oklahoma. He was buried on February 3rd, 1953 in Hunter Cemetery, Hunter, Cass County, North Dakota.General Notes
