Sarah was born on October 9th, 1753 in Old Frederick County, Virginia. Sarah's father was John Jr. Hiatt and her mother was Margaret Stephens. Her paternal grandparents were John Hiatt and Mary Lois Smith; her maternal grandparents were Peter Stephens and Maria Christina Rittenhouse. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Evan, James, Jonathan, Timothy, Martha, Ruth and Phebe. She had ten half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named George, John, Joseph, William, Evan, James, Jonathan, Timothy, Thomas, John L., Catherine, Margaret, Mary, Ann, Margaret, Margaret and Mary. She died after 1772.-
