Obituary from Gibertson Funeral Directors: "Clifford Conrad Foreng was
born on February 1, 1923 at McVille, North Dakota, the son of Casper and
Clara Enstad Foreng.  He was educated at the Bergen #2 Country School and
graduated from Pekin High School in 1941.  After graduation, he attended
Barber School in Minneapolis, MN and worked in a Barber Shop in Binford,
North Dakota for a time.  Clifford was united in marriage to Orpha Selma
Brekken on July 7, 1944 at the Pekin Lutheran Church Parsonage.  They
established their home on the Foreng family farm, rural Pekin where they
farmed with Clifford's Dad for 19 years.  They then moved to McVille
where Cliff managed the bowling alley for 2 years.  In September of 1966
they moved to Devils Lake where they have made their home through the
years.  Cliff worked for a time as a salesman for Lake Chevrolet and
later for Schwan Wholesale for 17 years, retiring in 1985.  Clifford had
been a resident of the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford
since July of 2001.  He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church,
Rotary Club, the Odd Fellows and the Devils Lake Elks and Eagles Lodges. 
He also was the Local Flotilla Commander of the Devils Lake area Coast
Guard.  Cliff was a self-taught accordion player, getting his first
accordion at the age of 14.  He started several bands, including the
"Royal Scandinavians", "Cliff Foreng and the Playboys" and "Cliff Foreng
Combo".  A fellow musician-friend once said, "Cliff would play in a
snowstorm in the street if he thought someone would come."  With that
purpose in mind, in 1979, Cliff created a Sing Along Book so that
everyone could find pleasure in music, even if they couldn't play an
instrument.  After Cliff retired he went on to entertain young and old
with his gift of music and the accordion.  Known as the "Music Man" and
later as a "Musical Ambassador", Cliff entertained on stage with Myron
Floren and Frankie Yankovic.  Cliff touched many lives with his accordion
in so many different places and settings."
Funeral Service was held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church iN Devils Lake,
North Dakota on Saturday August 24, 2002 at 11 AM. Officiating were Rev.
Harold Ovre and Rev. Al Hagerott with music by The GosPals, Gloria
Lysne-Organist, Jackie Walsh-Soloist, and Lynda Pearson-Accompanist.
Honorary Pallbearers were Clifford's Grandchildren and Great
Grandchildren and All of Clifford's Musician Friends both Past and
Present.  Active Pallbearers were Harvey Hoiberg, David Foreng, Nicholas
Walsh, Hollis Hoiberg, Tim Halvorson, Harold Petterson, Monte McDaniel
and Mark Urvand.
