Charles Farrel was born on September 22nd, 1907 in Leedy, Oklahoma. Charles Farrel's father was Samuel Arther Coen and his mother is Hattie Marie Higgins. His paternal grandparents were William Gatton Coen and Lydia Ressler; his maternal grandparents are Levi Higgins and Miss Borders. He had four brothers and a sister, named Murl Ross, Clarence Everett, William Franklin, Claret Arthur and Minnie May. He is the second youngest of the six children.-
