WILLIAM L. was born about 1807 in Of, , Davidson, Tennessee.  WILLIAM L.'s father was William Howe Nance and his mother is Elizabeth Veneable Morton.  His paternal grandfather is David Nance. He had five brothers and seven sisters, named Josiah Crenshaw, SAMUEL, FREDERICK W., CLEMENT W., JAMES T., MARY A., MARTHA, SUSAN MASSEY, Elizabeth V., SICILY, AMERICA LUCINDA and ANTOINETTE M..  He is the fourth oldest of the thirteen children.
