Wopke was born on June 27th, 1799 in Rorichum, Ostfriesland, Germany.  Wopke's father was Willem Janssen Willemssen and her mother was Frauoke Janssen Bruns.  Her paternal grandparents were Willem Janssen and Trintje Hinders. She had two brothers and a sister, named Hinrich Hindkerk Willems, Ulfert and Grietje.  She was the second oldest of the four children.
