Edward Gilman was born on April 16th, 1846 in Thetford, Vermont. Edward Gilman's father was Marcus Hartwell Wheeler and his mother was Sarah Pratt. His paternal grandparents were Amos Wheeler and Eunice Hosford; his maternal grandparents were William Pratt and Abigail Connor. He had a brother and two sisters, named Marcus Pratt, Sarah Anne and Ella. He was the second youngest of the four children.-
