Jacob was born in 1723. Jacob's father was Jan Jansen Van Meter and his mother was Margaret Mollenauer. His paternal grandparents were Joost Jansen Van Meteren and Sara DuBois; his maternal grandparents were Hendrick Mollenauer and Cathelina Bodyn. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Isaac, Henry, Abraham, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Rachel and Maudlina. He was the second youngest of the eight children.
