Henry was born in 1717. Henry's father was Jan Jansen Van Meter and his mother was Margaret Mollenauer. His paternal grandparents were Joost Jansen Van Meteren and Sara DuBois; his maternal grandparents were Hendrick Mollenauer and Cathelina Bodyn. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Isaac, Abraham, Jacob, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Rachel and Maudlina. He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
