Esther was born in 1798 in Botetourt County,Virginia. Esther's father was John Terry and her mother was Esther Brown. Her paternal grandparents were William Terry and Rachel Manson; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Brown and Mary Terry. She had five brothers and three sisters, named John, William, Elisha, Elias, Thomas, Sally, Rachel and Elizabeth. She had twelve half-brothers and a half-sister, named Josiah, William, George F., Haden, John, Elijah, Elisha, J. Elias, Miles, Thomas, Daniel, Jasper and Esther (Easter).-
