Belva Gertrude's father was John Elias Terry and her mother was Ollie Belcher. Her paternal grandparents were Francis Marion Terry and Nancy Ann Sands; her maternal grandparents were John Martin and Esther Martha Clark. She had a brother and six sisters, named Russell Lowell, Esther Opal, Nina Marie, Grace Maude, Iva Lee, Margery Catherine and Nellie Irene.-
