Mark was born on June 21st, 1733 in Edinburgh,Midlothian,Scotland.  Mark's father was Mark SPROTT and his mother was Katharine RUSSELL.  His paternal grandparents were William SPROTT and Euphan MOFFAT. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Alexander, John, Janet, Eupham and Katharine.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
