Janet was born on February 24th, 1732 in Edinburgh,Midlothian,Scotland.  Janet's father was Mark SPROTT and her mother was Katharine RUSSELL.  Her paternal grandparents were William SPROTT and Euphan MOFFAT. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Mark, Alexander, John, Eupham and Katharine.  She was the oldest of the six children.
