Emily was born on June 12th, 1824 in Vigo County,Indiana. Emily's father was John Preston Rector and her mother was Catherine Price. Her paternal grandparents were George Rector and Nancy Anne Atkinson; her maternal grandparents were John H. Price and Elizabeth Mayberry. She had nine brothers and two sisters, named George, John Price, William Henry Harrison, Enoch Mabury, Wheaton Bolivar, James Monroe, Nelson R. E., Albert Van Buren, Charles Prentice, Nancy Ann and Julia Ann. She was the sixth oldest of the twelve children.-
