Benjamin Kercheval 
Benjamin was born on March 17th, 1777 in Berkerly County,West Virginia. Benjamin's father was James Kercheval and his mother was Mary Pottenger. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Kercheval and Elizabeth Fulton; his maternal grandparents were Robert Pottenger and Elizabeth Willett. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Rueban, Samuel P., John, Lewis, Sarah, Elizabeth and Nancy. He was the oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 82 on August 8th, 1859 in Prairie Creek,Indiana.General Notes
Benjamin was the first pedagogue of Linton Twp., Vigo Co. IN. The first
school ws held in a log building situated just south of th Twp., furnished in
the usual primitive fashion with puncheon floor, split poles for seats, the
light being admitted through greased paper which was pasted over an aperture
running along one side of the building. The year was 1812. From HISTORY OF

Kercheval Homestead built 1844 by James Kercheval, the house is still in possession of one of the descendants, Mr. John S. Johnson. Many of the furnishings of the original home are still in constant use; others have ben brought fro the attic and restored in a successful attempt to retain the atmosphere of the slower pace of living in the East. During the Civil War, it was used as Headquarters for the 56th Regiment Recruting Station. President Benjamin Harrison was a grequent visitor. All Kercheval descendants are welcome to saty over night there.

‌Benjamin and Nancy were married in a religious ceremony in 1803 in Butler County,Ohio. They had two sons and three daughters, named William, Martin, Mary Ann, Sarah and Elizabeth.

Mary Ann was born on December 13th, 1804. She died at the age of 78 on May 7th, 1883.
William Kercheval
William was born on January 4th, 1806 in Butler County,Ohio. He died at the age of 57 on September 20th, 1863.
Sarah Kercheval
Sarah was born on April 29th, 1808 in Butler County,Ohio. She died at the age of 70 on November 30th, 1878 in Prairie Creek,Vigo County,Indiana. She was buried in Baptist Cemetary.
Elizabeth Kercheval
Elizabeth was born on November 29th, 1809 in Butler County,Ohio. She died at the age of 78 on January 20th, 1888.
Martin Kercheval
Martin was born on October 28th, 1811 in Butler County,Ohio. He died at the age of 11 on August 10th, 1823.
