First wife unknown. He was a Huguenot refugee, came to province 28-8-1659, locating on the south side of the South River, on land granted by Lord Baltimore, named "Lavell". He was planter and merchant. He contributed to the public cost of the expedition against the Nanticoke Indians in 1678; app. by Gen Assem. of MD in 1683; a commissioner to purchase sites and to lay out towns etc.; at death he left a will bequeathing to his wife and children several thousand acres of land, silver plate etc.
