His paternal grandparents were James HOLDEN and Margaret Mrs MASON; his maternal grandparents were William SLATER and Elizabeth WILLIAMSON. He had six brothers and fourteen sisters, named John, James, James, George, William, George, Jenny, Betty, Sarah, Alice, Elizabeth, Mary, Ann, Martha, Margaret, Ann, Mary, Sarah, Martha and Alice.
