Joseph was born on May 4th, 1781 in ,Chorley,Lancashire,England. Joseph's father was James HOLDEN and his mother was Margaret Mrs MASON. His paternal grandparents were James HOLDEN and Margaret FLITCROFT; his maternal grandparents were William SLATER and Elizabeth WILLIAMSON. He had five brothers and three sisters, named James, Joseph, Richard, John, Oliver, Ann, Elizabeth and Nancy. He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.General Notes
