John was born on February 4th, 1669 in Guilford,New Haven Co.,Conn.. John's father was Matthew (Mathew) BECKWITH and his mother was Mrs. Elizabeth BECKWITH. His paternal grandparents were Matthew (Mathew) BECKWITH and Elizabeth (Mary) LYNDE; his maternal grandparents were Peter TALLMAN and Anne HILL. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Matthew, James, Jonah, Griswold, John, Prudence, Sarah, Elizabeth, Ruth and Sarah. He was the second oldest of the eleven children.
