L was born in 1864.¹ L's father was James Addison Young and his mother was Margaret Jane Sparks. His paternal grandparents were Robert Cochran Young and Mary Hayden. He had two brothers and a sister, named Benjamin, Walter and Mary. He was the second youngest of the four children.
