Martha was born in 1871. Martha's father was Christopher Wilhelm Theising and her mother was Maria Catherine Elizabeth Menkhaus. Her paternal grandparents were John Henry Christopher Theising and Maria Julianna Gertrude Klenke. She had five brothers and three sisters, named John Bernhard, Mathias Augustine, Casper Henry, Frank, Matthew, Anna Lissetta, Maria Elisabeth and Catherine.-
