His paternal grandparents were John Sweezey and Mary Sarah; his maternal grandparents were Jacob Gary and Hannah Johnson. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Newton, William Rilley, John A., Mary H. and Sarah Alice. He had three half-sisters named Floral, Louetta and Stella.-
