Mathias was born in 1699 in Southold,Suffolk,New York.1 Mathias' father was Samuel Swayze and his mother was Hannah Beardsley. His paternal grandparents were John Swayze and Katherine King; his maternal grandparents were Joseph Beardsley and Phebe Abigail Dayton. He had a brother and three sisters, named Samuel S, Susannah, Mary and Elizabeth. He was the oldest of the five children.General Notes
