His paternal grandparents were David SLEETH and Jane Young; his maternal grandparents were Peter MYER and Susannah BARDELL. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Charles, Helmsley Seney, Orlando Milton (Land), William W., Susan Jane (Aunt Sue), Clarissa Kate, Anna Eliza, Cynthia and Harriet May. He was the fifth youngest of the ten children.-
