Gilbert was born on October 14th, 1846 in Shelby,IN. Gilbert's father was John Young Morris and his mother was Martha Golding. His paternal grandparents were William Godfrey Morris and Nancy Young. He had six brothers and a sister, named William G., John D., Hamilton, Joseph N., Albert N., James Jasper and Delilah E.. He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Calvin B, Carlos, Carlton T, Mary J., Catherine and Rebecca Jane. He died at the age of 2 on February 10th, 1849 in Shelby,IN. He was buried in Morris Cemetery.-
