His paternal grandparents were Robert Gwin and Jane Or Jean Kinkead; his maternal grandparents were James Lockridge and Isabella Kincaid. He had three brothers and a sister, named Samuel, James, Robert and Ruth Lockridge. He was the youngest of the five children. He had six half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Andrew, Moses, Ephraim J, Alexander, Salathiel, Thompson M, Elizabeth, Isabella, Jane, Margaret and Mary E.-
