Houston F. was born in 1827. Houston F.'s father was Robert Moses Gwin and his mother was Mary Stephenson. His paternal grandparents were David Gwin and Jane Carlisle. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named David, James Stephenson, Robert S, Moses, Jane, Cynthia, Esther S., Emaline Mary, Amanda, Caroline and Mary A.. He was the second youngest of the twelve children.-
