Jacob Johnston was born in June 1826 in Washington Co,Pennsylvania. Jacob Johnston's father was Jacob DeGarmo and his mother was Hannah Ames. His maternal grandparents were Jabez Ames and Elizabeth Smith. He had seven brothers and five sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named William, John, Absalom, Martin Smith, Jabez Gifford, Hiram, Jerome, Elizabeth, Mary Florence, Sarah Ann, Hannah, Mariah Arabella and UNKNOWN.
