Jane was born on January 1st, 1835. Jane's father was James Crockett and her mother was Mary Jane Cartmill. Her paternal grandparents were John Drake Crockett and Jane Cartmill; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Cartmill and Martha McDonald. She had two brothers and four sisters, named James, Charles, Martha T., Amanda, Mariah and Julia Anne. She was the oldest of the seven children. She had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named John Thomas, Caleb, Samuel, Robert Tilford, Nancy Ann, Cordelia, Mary and Sarah Margaret.-
