Gilbert "The Red" was born on September 2nd, 1243 in Christchurch,Hampshire,England.  Gilbert "The Red"'s father was Richard de Clare and his mother was Maud De Lacy.  His paternal grandfather was Gilbert de Clare; his maternal grandparents were John De Lacy and Margaret De Quincy. He had two brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Thomas and Roese.  He was the oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 52 on December 7th, 1295 in Monmouth Castle,England.  He was buried in Tewkesbury Abbey,Gloucestershire,England.
