His paternal grandparents were Cadell ap Rhodri and Mrs. Rheingar ap Rhodri; his maternal grandfather was Llywarch ap Hyfaidd. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named Maredydd ap, Rhodri ap, Rhain ap, Dyfnwal ap, Edwin ap, Cynan ap, Einion ap, Gwenllian verch and Angharad Verch. He was the oldest of the ten children. paid tribute of 300 wolves' heads to Edgar, King of England, 962; tried to
recover the throne of Gwynedd, and died 988, having had a son, Einion ap Owain.
