Edmund II De Wessex 
Edmund II was born in 0989 in Wessex,England.1 Edmund II's father was Aethelred II De Wessex and his mother was Aelflede(Elfreda, Elgiva) Northumbria. His paternal grandparents were Edgar I De Wessex and Elfrida De Mercia; his maternal grandparents were Thored Gunnersson and Hilda UNKNOWN. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Aethelstan, Edred, Ecgbert, Edwy, Edgar, Aelgifu Elgiva, Edith, Wulfhilda, Elgifu and ?. He was the third oldest of the eleven children. He had four half-brothers and three half-sisters, named EADMUND II, Edric, Edward III, Alfred Aldred, Godgifu, Elfgifu and Godgifu De Wessex Goda /. Edmund was born in 989 and succeeded his father in April 1016. In this year he fought six battles, but through treachery he was completely overthrown at Assandun in Essex. He and Canute the Dane agreed to divide the kingdom. He was chosen King of England by the Londoners on his father's death, while Canute was elected at Southampton by the Witan. Edmund hastily levied an army in the west, defeated Canute twice, raised the siege of London, and again routed the Danes. Levying a fresh army, he defeated them atOtford, his last victory. At Ashingdon in Essex, after a desperate fight, he was routed. By compromise with Canute, the latter retained Mercia and Northumbria, Edmund all the south and the headship, the survivor to succeed to the whole.A few weeks later Edmund died, in 1016, and Canute became King of England without a rival. It is said that the traitorous Edric Streona perhaps murdured Edmund on November 30, 1016, shortly after peace was made.
