Count Friedrich of was born in 0990. Count Friedrich of's father was Count Engelbert III of Chiemgau and his mother was Princess Adela of Bavaria. His paternal grandparents were Count Sieghard IV of Chiemgau and Princess Willa of Chiemgau; his maternal grandfather was Count Hartwich I of Bavaria. He had four brothers named Count Sieghard VIII of, Bishop Hartwig of, Count Engelbert IV of and Engelbert of. He was the second youngest of the five children.
