Bert O. was born on August 7th, 1885 in Monroe County, Indiana. Bert O.'s father was John Wesley Shields and his mother was Cora B. Hays. His paternal grandparents were William Henry Harrison Shields and Mary Ellen Hudlin. He had a brother and a sister, named Wesley T. and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Pearl. He was the oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 33 on December 23rd, 1918 in Bloomington, Monroe Co., Indiana. He was buried in Rosehill Cemetery, Bloomington, Monroe, Indiana.-
