Ulzada was born on September 14th, 1914. Ulzada's father was James C. Rains and her mother was Julia Elizabeth Zike. Her paternal grandfather was Asa Rains; her maternal grandparents were William Zike and Harriet May Poor. She had three brothers and a sister, named William, Leo, John and Vera. She was the second youngest of the five children.-
