Her paternal grandparents were James Calvin (Joseph) Jackson and Mary Polly Mounce; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Brockwell and Mary Ann Oats. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Tommie, Eliza, Charles Calvin, Nora May (Lorraine), Alice Annie, Ida Agnes, Bessie and Gladys L. She had three half-sisters named Julia, Dora and Elizabeth.
