Francis Marion was born in January 1834.1   Francis Marion's father was Grief Talley and his mother was Elizabeth "Betsey".  His paternal grandparents were George Washington Talley and Mary Lucy McDaniel. He had six brothers and two sisters, named William, Newton, Seney, Elizah, Franklin, John, Nancy and Nancy.  He was the oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 84 in 1918.1
