William Pennington 
William was born about 1809 in , Spartanburg, South Carolina.1 William's father was Benjamin Pennington and his mother was Catherine Tackett. His paternal grandparents were Levi Pennington and Elizabeth Ray. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named John B., Benjamin, Joseph M., George Washington, Alfred, James Ervin, Franklin, Mary, Nancy, Viney and Cynthia.
