Edmund I was born in 0920 in Wessex, England.1 Edmund I's father was Edward I the Elder and his mother was Edgiva of Kent. His paternal grandparents were The Great Alfred and Ethelwitha of Mercia; his maternal grandfather was Sigehelm (Ealdorman) Of Kent. He had two half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Aethelstan, Alfred of England, Aedgifu of England, Edith of England, Edgifu of England, Edhilda of England, Eadgyth of England and AElfgifu of England.
