Aethelstan was born in 0894.1 Aethelstan's father was Edward I the Elder and his mother was Ecgwyn of Wessex. His paternal grandparents were The Great Alfred and Ethelwitha of Mercia. He had a brother and two sisters, named Alfred of England, Aedgifu of England and Edith of England. He had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named Edmund I, Edgifu of England, Edhilda of England, Eadgyth of England and AElfgifu of England.1 General Notes

REF: British Monarchy Official Website: Alfred's successors reconquered the Danelaw. Athelsta n (reigned 925-39) pushed the boundaries of the kingdom to their furthest extent and lesser k ings in Scotland and Wales accepted him as overlord of the British.
