His paternal grandparents were Fulk IV de Rechin and Bertrade de MONTFORT; his maternal grandparents were Elias de Maine and Matilde de LOIRE. He had a brother and two sisters, named Geoffrey V, Mathilde (Alice) de and Sibilla de. He was the oldest of the four children. He died in St Serge Abbey, Angers, Anjou, France.
