Sidney Ernest's father was John Thomas Steer and his mother was Margaret Ann Tucker. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Steer and Mary Hayward. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Harry, Raph, Percy, Ellen, Melena, May and Elsie. He died at the age of 77 on December 2nd, 1961.
