Richard was born in 1789 and his baptism took place on August 30th, 1789 in Wisborough Green, Sussex.1  Richard's father was Thomas Steer and his mother was Sarah steer. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Willm, James, John, Edward, Christopher, Sarah, Sarah and Susannah.  He was the second youngest of the nine children.
