Edward was born in 1787 and his baptism took place on February 25th, 1787 in Wisborough Green, Sussex.  Edward's father was Thomas Steer and his mother was Sarah steer. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Willm, James, John, Richard, Christopher, Sarah, Sarah and Susannah.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.
