John was born in 1784 and his baptism took place on March 28th, 1784 in Wisborough Green, Sussex.1   John's father was Thomas Steer and his mother was Sarah steer. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Willm, James, Edward, Richard, Christopher, Sarah, Sarah and Susannah.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
