Edward was born before 1793 and his baptism took place on July 21st, 1793 in Angmering, Sussex.1   Edward's father was Edward Steer and his mother was Sarah Goldsmith. He had three brothers and two sisters, named William, George, John, Anna and Jemima.  He was the third oldest of the six children.
