Edward was born on October 22nd, 1815 in Wisborough Green, Sussex and his baptism took place there on November 19th, 1815.1   Edward's father was Robert Steer and his mother was Sarah Voice. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named George, Henry, John, Robert, Thomas, Stephen, William, Elizabeth, Mary and Sarah.  He was the fifth youngest of the eleven children.
